Donating to Support the Fight for Justice

If you were unable to participate in the recent protests and want to do something, another way to help is to donate your money or your time. There are many organizations providing activists with bail bonds and legal help. Some are helping small businesses and other community resources that have been adversely affected as well.

Here is a list you can use to begin your search. We’ve provided links to the organizations and their donation pages. Links can be found on the sites for volunteer opportunities as well.

BAIL FUNDS

NATIONAL BAIL FUND NETWORK

It provides links to over 60 community bail and bond funds, including the Minnesota Freedom Fund. You can check out the list of protest bail funds by state if you want to give to a local fund. You can also donate directly to the Network.

NATIONAL LAWYERS GUILD

The National Lawyers Guild is the nation’s oldest and largest progressive bar association and was the first one in the US to be racially integrated. Their mission is to use law for the people, uniting lawyers, law students, legal workers, and jailhouse lawyers to function as an effective force in the service of the people by valuing human rights and the rights of ecosystems over property interests. Their mission is to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders. Donate

COMMITTEE TO PROTECT JOURNALISTS

CPJ promotes press freedom worldwide and defends the right of journalists to report the news safely and without fear of reprisal. CPJ protects the free flow of news and commentary by taking action wherever journalists are under threat. Donate

THE BAIL PROJECT

Its National Revolving Bail Fund is on a mission to combat mass incarceration and reshape the pretrial system in the United States. 100% of online donations are used to bring people home.

NATIONAL BAIL OUT

It is a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers and activists building a community-based movement to support the Black community and end systems of pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration. 

COMMUNITY RESTORATION

WE LOVE LAKE STREET

The Lake Street Council (501c3) will donate 100% of funds to help rebuild Lake Street, starting with direct support to small businesses and nonprofits to help them rebuild their storefronts, reopen their businesses and serve the neighborhoods.

POLICY REFORM ORGANIZATIONS

THE IDA B. WELLS SOCIETY

They are a news trade organization with a mission of increasing the ranks, retention and profile of reporters and editors of color in the field of investigative reporting.” Donate

They exonerate the innocent through DNA testing and reform the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. Donate

BLACK LIVES MATTER GLOBAL NETWORK

It is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. Donate

COLOR of CHANGE EDUCATION FUND

Color Of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. They help people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by 1.7 million members, they move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America. Donate

ADVANCEMENT PROJECT

It is a next generation, multi-racial civil rights organization. Rooted in the great human rights struggles for equality and justice, they exist to fulfill America’s promise of a caring, inclusive and just democracy. COMMUNITY JUSTICE ACTION FUND

It is a nonprofit organization building power for and with communities of color to end gun violence. CJAF is changing the conversation on gun violence prevention by leading with the people closest to the pain of everyday gun violence. Donate

As a response to the inequities experienced by the Black Community, the Anti-Racism Fund provides capital from a pool of donations to a dynamic portfolio of curated organizations whose ethos align with ARF’s four pillars of purpose: Justice System Reform, Education Parity, Health & Wellness Access and Community Outreach & Social Justice Advocacy. POLICE REFORM ORGANIZATIONS

CAMPAIGN ZERO

Funds donated to Campaign Zero support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.

THE NATIONAL POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT

The National Police Accountability Project is a project of the National Lawyers Guild, a non-profit membership organization of plaintiffs’ lawyers, law students and legal workers dedicated to ending law enforcement and detention officer abuse of authority. Donate

Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) is an unprecedented campaign that is working to end discriminatory policing in New York. They are advancing policies that protect the safety and rights of all New Yorkers to create true community safety. Donate

COMMUNITIES UNITED AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY

CUAPB provides assistance to individuals and families dealing with the effects of police brutality. It routinely wages battles in the political and legal arenas to bring about changes in laws, policies and practices that reduce accountability and allow police brutality to occur. A number of educational programs are provided by them to inform the community about police brutality and justice system issues as well.

It is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. Donate

Their mission is to provide the highest quality criminal defense and restorative justice services to low-income people, specifically people of color. Their focus is Hennepin County, their priority is juveniles, and their services are pro bono. Donate
